Pretext Reading Series at Studio 10 Gallery

Studio 10 Gallery is pleased to announce the next event in the Pretext Reading Series. It will take place on Sunday, March 24 at 4 pm at 56 Bogart Street in Brooklyn. The readers will be Christen Clifford, Jee Leong Koh, Geoffrey O’Brien, and Janet Passehl.

Christen Clifford is a feminist performance artist, writer, curator, actor, and mother. Her essay on gender, feminism and aging, “Mother, Daughter, Moustache,” was published in the 2014 anthology Women in Clothes and read by Molly Ringwald for Selected Shorts on NPR. Her writing has appeared in Salon, The Brooklyn Rail, Culturebot, PuffHo, and Smith Magazine. Her performance and video work has been shown at the New Museum, Postmasters Gallery, Galapagos Art Space and Dixon Place. Her installation Interiors: We Are All Pink was recently included in Curriculum: Spaces of Learning and Unlearning at the EFA Project Space

Jee Leong Koh is the author of Steep Tea, which was named a Best Book of the Year by UK’s Financial Times and a Finalist by Lambda Literary. He has published three other books of poetry, including Equal to the Earth and Seven Studies for a Self Portrait, as well as a book of essays, and a book of zuihitsu. Originally from Singapore, he lives in New York City, where he heads the literary non-profit Singapore Unbound. https://singaporeunbound.org/

Geoffrey O'Brien has published eight collections of poetry including Early Autumn (Salt, 2010), In a Mist (Shearsman, 2015), and most recently The Blue Hill (Marsh Hawk Press,2018). His prose books include Dream Time: Chapters from the Sixties (1988), The Phantom Empire (1993), The Browser's Ecstasy (2000), Sonata for Jukebox (2004), and Stolen Glimpses, Captive Shadows: Writing on Film 2002-2012 (2013). He was for many years editor-in-chief of The Library of America. He lives in Brooklyn.

 

Janet Passehl is both a poet and a visual artist. Her collection, Clutching Lambs, was published in 2014 by Negative Capability Press. Passehl’s work has also appeared in Court Green, Flash Cove, Arsenic Lobster, several issues of Caliban-on-line, and in the catalog Miyamoto in New York City: 1964 to Present, which was published by Zürcher Gallery in 2018. Her visual art and writing practices will converge in an exhibition at Kudos Gallery in Sydney Australia, in April 2019. She lives in Essex, Connecticut.
